NAIDOC week is here, the 7th to the 14th of July marks a week of recognition and celebration. The theme for this year is “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud”. This theme is a message of resilience, unity and pride in our heritage, culture and achievements. Karla Kuliny means ‘Return to campfire’ and in this spirit we embrace the NAIDOC message of keeping the fire burning. The campfire is where we gather to celebrate our community and share our knowledge. For us, there are children without the chance to embrace the fire that is the knowledge and culture of our community.
Our goal is to provide these children with the opportunity to experience what NAIDOC week is all about. They embrace the very essence of resilience in their experiences, having to struggle without the strong guiding hands of family. Their strength is an inspiration to us at Karla Kuliny and we want to provide them with a safe and stable environment.
Unity is the goal for our organisation, to bring our children and youth together with foster carers who will share their knowledge and culture and give these children the opportunities afforded to everyone else. With every child successfully fostered, we build our community and strengthen our unity.
Pride, the driving force behind our celebration and recognition of First Nations cultures. We must be proud of where we’ve come from, what we’ve overcome and where we are headed as a people. To give our children and youth pride in their identities is to give them hope for a brighter future and strength in themselves. So, we return to our campfire, and we keep that fire burning! Blak, loud and proud for our future generations.
